Interesting classof77. Weakness? meticulous orderly moments of stunning purity? what the? What's wrong with that?I'm glad you started with a positive "best album" pre-emptive strike, best album is arguable. It's a Suzanne vega song, not a sloppy live Rolling Stones Jam. Fuzzed? How do you know? Yes I know, fuzz guitar AKA now as overdriven distorted guitar. Hmm, industrial production BKG. Noises?Interesting analisys. Nothing is messed up with fuzzy guitar, it's an effective tool and hook.

This is her best album. Her one weakness has always been the desire to have everything meticulous and orderly and perfect in each arrangement. It can produce moments of stunning purity (like "Language" on Solitude Standing) but sometimes she plays it a little too safe.Froom messed and fuzzed things up just enough on this album. Electric guitar distortion, quasi-industrial production, background noise, etc. Still precise, but her most alive record.

Her mother is of German-Swedish heritage. So, not only Irish and Scottish like her father. :)

I had forgotten just how stunning her eyes and her music are. Small blue thing still sounds fresh.

I agree with all the statements; SVega definitely very underated in the canon of music, but with all our list-makers being offered kickbacks from record complanies and filled with their white middle class patriarchal ideas should i expect any less? I'm just glad someone steered me to the notso mainstream. 99F is so succinct, almost clinical where all her notions she raises in her lyrics about the body and being female become fleshed out in the music which then creates reactions in your own body.

Ah, the guy is the one getting steamed up but she remains cool as anything. I never pictured it that way.

I think Suzanne Vega is perhaps amongst the most under-rated musicians ever. Most have heard Luka and this song and a few others, but just buy any of her discs and they are all good. Most of her discs I actually like every single song. Her stuff can drift into very dark matters and this is such a great artist and when I say dark it's almost dark like Depeche Mode only in her case maybe more personal and of course a whole different musical style than DM.
