I remember the 'curse' subject coming up after Phil Parson's wild flip in the 1983 Winston 500. And yes, the medicine man does look like death-warmed-over Keith Richards lol.

ya and he also had his life CUT SHORT, just like gilles villenuve, he didn't have enough time to win a championship and the man even said that he wouldnt have 7 championships if Davey were still around

*snigger*OK, yeah... sure he would.Hey, I liked him too, but be real. He'd be headed for 50, and when he died he had 19 wins in nearly 200 starts. There are plenty of showings by other drivers that are as good, if not better. If he was alive now he'd be competing with the likes of Gordon, Johnson, Stewart and others and trying to cope with the COT."Best" would be a pretty dubious claim for a guy who never won a championship just because he won 5 races twice.

I would like to add Mark Martin going into the infield.

thanks...found out it was Smith but thanks for the details

That was Larry Smith in the 1973 race. He took the padding out of his helmet because it was irritating his scalp. He then cut down a tire and drove around for two laps, trying to impress the executives from his sponsor, Carling, but crashed and died.
