Getting to 9th dan Must be some dedication

82 years old, very impressive ... this is a true master... not like in other martial arts where degrees doesnt mean anymore nothing. the most part buying by money... this man trained all his life the unice of the mind and body

I agree with you

In the case of 9th dan, I think you could take into account age. When you are 80 years old probably your knees and hips won't act as you would like them. These high grade kendoka rely more on their spirit than in their body and muscles so, if you have ever practiced with a few of them, you probably realised that, first, you are no match for them and, second, thier zanshin goes beyond body language and you "feel" it. I am no expert either, this is my own opinion from my experience in the matter.

TKD is (thankfully) getting removed from the Olympic program and the last thing people will remember of this hokey psuedo-sport is how laughably ineffective it was against an unprepared referee half the 'fighter's' size.TKD is worthless as a form of self defence and it's only redeeming quality is as a means for children to keep fit and have fun.

Sorry but you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. You cant stop the competition for the actions of that person. The shithead that kicked the ref is just that a shithead. that seys nothing about the art. Olympic TKD is a game but there are plenty of tkd school with verry good fighters and if you still think otherwise you should travel around a bit and i dont mean to McDojos.

TKD is complete garbage on every level.Hopefully the pathetic referee attack (he couldn't even hurt him with an undefended headkick!) will be the death knell for this ridiculous Korean nationalist project masquerading as a sport.

Me.. if at 82 years old I can still practice I'll be happy. Now he can do it and still give those young guys less than 1/2 his age a hard time. Fantastic.

its true TKD evolved from Karate, Karate from Chinese martial arts. The founder of TKD learnt Karate in Japan and became general in Korea. Korea was annexed by Japan for 36yrs before WW2, and after the war, he taught Karate in his military schools, but because of the painful past, Korean tried their best to eradicate any influence from Japan. They banned public use of Japanese on any media til recently, and had to transform Karate to TKD. same happened to Aikido to Hapkido, Kendo to Kumdo.
